Hello Reader!
I am assuming you are someone interested in robotics, so I wanted to peak some more of your interest by talking about my role as the Engineering lead. The point of the Engineering Lead is to manage communication between the three main branches- Competition, Engineering, Business- and the smaller sectors of engineering- programming, mechanical, CAD, electrical. It is hard to keep sanity at times (you work with engineers and robotics enthusiasts so everyone is a bit crazy), so you need to keep your chill and remember that you represent the voice of the team. This is important to remember since it is easy to be carried away by individualistic dreams. The point of being Engineering lead is to incorporate the teams dream and ambitions to what you want to do. Also, I have to be honest you have to have some engineering background. It is good to know your basics in programming, CAD, or even electrical. You can choose to either be a jack of all trades, or exceptionally good at one. Be prepared to keep learning though, there is always more to understand about engineering. The Engineering lead also needs to be a good scribe. Document, document, document. There is so much to learn from your mistakes, and it would help that you don't repeat those mistakes. Write out what went wrong with robots and what went right. This helps future members to not make your mistakes, and build upon the foundation you have created. Finally, remember to have fun. You joined robotics, and sometimes you forget why you did. Yes, it is stressful but keep the reasons why you joined in mind. You are a competent human being, and I am glad you have an interest in robotics!
